Following the successful pilot run in 2015 and later than anticipated, The Trekking and Riding Society has great pleasure in announcing the support of Horsescotland to match fund the training grant to encourage and develop a staff member from one of our approved member centres. George Tait spent many years as a stalwart of the TRSS and was passionate about staff members being properly trained for the job. These days it is more important than ever to train and qualify staff working in riding centres to safeguard clients and the business.
The fund money of £200 will be awarded to a staff member fitting the criteria to enable them to develop their skills and seek further training with a suitably qualified coach or tutor. It is ideally aimed at someone who has started on the qualification route and would benefit from quality coaching to enable them to progress in the industry and sit further examinations. The staff member must have worked in the yard for a period of at least a year and should intend to remain in the industry.
Current TRSS approved paid up members can nominate staff members employed in the business by submitting 200 words describing why they feel their staff member deserves to receive the award. As shortlist will be put together from the nominated staff members and candidates will be asked to answer a few questions to enable the panel members to choose a worthy recipient. Certificates will be presented to both the winner and runners up with a small engraved plaque being presented to the winner at the TRSS Annual Members Meeting held at Auchterarder in May.
Information and criteria will be sent out to all member centres shortly.

Lindsaye Tait
Hi Lindsaye,
We have had Eve Carlin and Kirstin MacGregor since we started the GT Award. Last year we had two strong shortlisted girls (the others did not fit the criteria of working full time in the industry and wishing to train to improve themselves). One had to leave work as she was diagnosed with a serious illness and is still off and the other decided to move South to live closer to her boyfriend. We used the money put aside to hire Patrick Print to give a workshop to all the members and opened it up to other interested coaches. This year we did not run it due to Covid as centres are not long open and we had to waive the membership fees for all the centres. Not sure what we will do next year as it will depend on centres operating normally. The workshop with Patrick was well received and if we don’t have strong candidates may do something similar.
